Dale's Last Day On The Air ~ July 21, 2017

TURNER TAKES READERS ON A CAREER ‘ADVENTURE’

Music is an important part of Dale Turner’s life. And, whether it be playing in a band as a teenager, playing music on the radio – or promoting hit records from some of the biggest stars in Country Music, Dale has left his imprint all over the Country genre. He details his five-decade career in his new autobiography, Turner’s Big Radio & Record Adventure: The Life And Musical Journey Of Dennis Dale Turner. A collection of anecdotes about his career, ranging from his beginning as a teenager at Radio Station KXOK in St. Louis, Missouri to stops at stations such as WMC / Memphis, WKDA / Nashville, and WSAI / Cincinnati. In 1983, Turner made the switch to record promotion, and enjoyed a successful fourteen-year association with RCA Records, where he promoted hits from Alabama, Kenny Rogers, The Judds, and Keith Whitley. He then moved to Lyric Street Records, where he was responsible for helping to launch the career of Rascal Flatts, while keeping acts such as Aaron Tippin, Bucky Covington, and SheDaisy at or near the top of the charts.

Turner documents each stop along the way, along with recollections about some of the most influential radio programmers in his career, such as Les Acree, record company executives like Joe Galante, and the artists that he took to the top. From on-air radio promotions – the story of “What Did Dale Turner Say On The Air” is one for the ages – to winning the record promotion battle (Every Alabama single save one went number one during Turner’s tenure at RCA in the 1980s), and the friendships that he made with those he worked – and worked with, Turner’s Big Radio & Record Adventure offers the reader the chance to go behind-the-scenes of the music business.

“Dale was on the ground floor of introducing Rascal Flatts to the world. And together, we had a blast on the road with the initial radio promotion tour! Read his stories and re-live the magic!” / Joe Don Rooney, Rascal Flatts

“The thing I remember most about working with Dale is that he was always smiling and positive. No matter how hard the hours or the travel was, or how good or bad the charts were treating us that week, he always kept a positive attitude and that smile. We had a lot of fun together.” / Martina McBride

“I, too, enjoyed the great days at RCA as reflected in Dale’s book. Dale Turner was an intricate part of a talented team at RCA that helped me achieve 40 #1 records!” / Ronnie Milsap, Country Music Hall of Famer

Turner’s Big Radio & Record Adventure also serves as an honest portrayal of his successes – and his failures – at balancing a personal life alongside a successful musical career. He offers a truthful account of his first marriage – and his role in its’ end, as well as applying those lessons to love the second time around.

In keeping with the time-honored tradition of Country Radio’s partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Turner will be donating 50% of all proceeds from the book to the Hospital. He has set up an author website (www.TheDaleTurner.com) that will provide additional photos of his family, radio years and record label years with major recording artists. The Gallery will be updated monthly. It will also include audio from his past radio shows from the 70’s and 80’s.

Later this year, Turner will be making the rounds at radio once more for a tour of markets where he once worked, and is also planning a book signing in the Dickson, TN market, where he serves as morning air personality at WDKN, taking him back to the vocation where he commenced his career!

Quotes from Artists and Industry colleagues Dale has worked with

"An interesting glimpse behind the radio microphone and intense record business by the man who lived it. This future Hall of Famer's "accidental" entry into radio leads him on a roller coaster career in top radio markets and ultimately to key management positions at RCA, Disney's Lyric Street, and others. Enjoyable captivating stories you won't' find anywhere else about life on the road with major recording artists, like Garth Brooks, Rascal Flatts and others. It's a fun, informative and fascinating read."
~Jonathan Fricke, Member of the Country Radio Hall of Fame

"I was able to learn a lot from Dale! Like for instance -- how much effort is put behind EVERY song that goes out (especially a top 10)! I was always very impressed with his ability to remember the names of all the radio program directors, music directors, and the members of their families! He's a truly GREAT guy!"
~Bucky Covington, American Idol finalist

“When you’re a new artist on a major label it’s exciting but it can also be a little scary! Dale was there at the beginning with me and was always so helpful and kind. He helped introduce me to Country Radio which started an amazing relationship with them that’s lasted almost 20 years, and for that I’ll be forever grateful!"
~Sara Evans

"Dale and I promoted my records together over 30 years ago. He taught me a lot about how radio really worked and even though they said 'no' to playing most of our records, Dale's kindness and hard work always made it a whole lot easier to take. Enjoy this great book from a great guy."
~Vince Gill

"Dale Turner was a champion for my music from the start. His passion helped launch my career and I'll always be thankful to him for helping me get started. He even got thrown out of a radio station once because of me. Thanks Dale for being such a believer"
-Aaron Tippin
